   When teaching fire attack classes to beginning firefighters one of the most common questions is “how much water do I need?” I always smile and answer “enough to put the fire out.” I realize this is a Captain Obvious response but, it will always depend on several factors. The first is the fuel load. What and how much is burning?

     At the recent Mid-Year Business Meeting of the Iowa Firefighters Association, it was announced to those in attendance that the Memorial Walls will be full in less than 10 years and we need to start fund raising for the wall expansions.  

   The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) Board of Directors held its annual spring meeting in Arlington, VA, on April 8-9. Sixty directors from 40 states gathered to conduct Council business, participate in committee meetings, hear from guest speakers, and present the NVFC’s annual achievement awards.

   The Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of Pennington St, Rapid Valley, unincorporated, Pennington County, SD on Mar. 27, 2022 at 11:29 p.m.

Plenty of training

   First and foremost, I wish to pass my condolences along to the families, friends, and department members of Chancellor Fire Chief Jeb Ford, and, Lake County Deputy Braxton Hofman.

Fairbury responds

   Fairbury Rural Fire responded to a house fire on Jan. 1 with Jansen Fire providing mutual aid. Heavy smoke and strong winds reduced visibility, and snow and ice made it slick.

Time flies

   As the old saying goes “time sure flies by when you’re having fun!!”. That’s how I have been feeling with my position as your Secretary Treasurer of this Great Association!

Going for goals

   As I was thumbing through the January SDFA newspaper, I was very pleased with the number of departments and other local newspapers that are submitting articles.
