It seems like I am constantly reading about some new technique a department is now using to fight fire. If it’s not a new technique it is some new tool that will revolutionize our profession. Don’t get me wrong, I love to research things just like any other guy.

On Apr. 8, 2018 an estimated 1,500 people packed four Des Moines skyscrapers for the 15th anniversary of the Fight For Air Climb in Downtown Des Moines. The American Lung Association in Iowa event raised more than $335,000, which provides research, education and advocacy for the 200,000 Iowans who suffer from lung disease.

Honored as the IFA Department of Year at the Mid-Year meeting on March 24 was the Story City Fire Department.

By the time this article is published the legislative session will probably be over.  We had a roller coaster ride again this year. The license plate renewal streamlining was delayed until after the session. We are still working on it. Skylar Limkemann attempted to clean up some vague language that pertains to emergency response.

The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department fought a detached garage fire on Friday, March 16. The fire apparently started in a wood stove in the garage, which housed several vehicles and an auto repair shop. Several explosions were heard prior to LVFD’s arrival. Firefighters were on scene for several hours.

Honored as the IFA Department of Year at the Mid-Year meeting on March 24 was the Story City Fire Department.
