     The legislature has been in session for a month. I attended the condition of the state address in January. Governor Reynolds touched on many topics, including the budget, water quality, sexual harassment, education, healthcare, mental health and tax reform.

     Most community members count themselves lucky to have a dedicated group of firefighters in Jerauld and Buffalo Counties to not only respond to fires but also accidents and a host of other emergency situations. All are volunteers and give up countless hours responding to emergencies and conducting public service throughout the year. 

Morris Fire responded to a mobile home fire on Jan. 10. Two people working on a remodeling project in the home escaped. Firefighters made a quick interior attack but the damage was already done.

      We respond to so many varied emergencies. It is really a challenge to insure our teams are up to speed with all the hazards as well as responsibilities in meeting industry standards.
