Spring is around the corner
Spring is around the corner and I for one am done with winter! I want to take the time to keep you all up to date on the latest happenings of one of the committees I serve on with the National Volunteer Fire Council.
The Recruitment and Retention Committee has been especially busy. One of things we have been working on for some time is a film that the John Deere Corporation is backing to help recruit and retain volunteer firefighters. I was able to get an early preview the other day and was very impressed with the professionalism of the film. One of the best parts of the production is that a few of the scenes were filmed in Exeter, NE with several of their emergency responders starring in it.
The NVFC Recruitment and Retention Committee has also been working on adding sessions to the annual NVFC Training Summit that will deal with Recruitment and Retention of Firefighters. The Training Summit will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on June 23rd and 24th, 2023 and if you are looking for more information about the Summit I encourage you to visit the website NVFC.org.
As I mention the upcoming NVFC Training Summit I am excited to also share that the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Recruitment and Retention Committee, through the NSVFA SAFER Grant 4, will be taking applications for Nebraska Volunteer Firefighters who would like to attend the Training Summit and take the Recruitment related classes. In order to qualify for travel expense reimbursement by the SAFER Grant you will be required to come back and present Recruitment and Retention classes in your area.
More information about this should be available on the NSVFA web page or you may reach out to any of the Nebraska R & R Committee. Members of that committee include chairman Brad Anderson of Kearney, Justin Scamehorn of Waco, Mark Meints of Wymore, Pat Miller of Columbus, Troy Shoemaker of Alliance, Bill Lundy of York, Brenda Jenny of Blair, Tim Milton of Gering and myself.
Joel E. Cerny,
NSVFA NVFC Director
