Combine fire

Yankton firefighters responded to a 1996 Gleaner combine fire northwest of Yankton on Sunday, Oct. 22. The operator reported a fire near the location of a hydraulic bank under the cab. The fire was nearly contained when the diesel fuel tank let go and ignited under the unit. Nearly 100 gallons of fuel burned. The fire was contained to the lower and rear portion of the unit and is listed as a total loss. A blown hydraulic line is the blame for the fire. Submitted by Deputy Chief Larry Nickles.
